The sun was shining in all its glory as the weather held out for the entire day as the event unfolded and as we like to say it here at tnttorque.com “the only way to move forward is sideways”. Even though we did reach a bit late seeing as a lot of people were preparing for Christmas this coming week, the event turned out pretty well.
D.W.O. President put on quite an impressive show with his 2JZ Powered Toyota Chaser which had everyone going crazy!!! As well as other members of the D.W.O. team with a lot of impressive tricks which had the surrounding crowd on the edge of their seats. The sounds of screeching tires, blow off valves, exhaust back firing as well as the glee of the cheering crowd was more than enough to satisfy our appetites and keep us wanting more.
For those who are new to “Drifting”, we shall give you a small explanation of what it’s all about so you can understand what D.W.O. has been doing during this event.
Drifting in essence is a style of racing that was born in the winding mountains of Japan during the 1990’s and is referred to as a driving technique where the driver intentionally oversteers, causing loss of traction in the rear wheels through turns, while maintaining vehicle control and a high exit speed. A car is said to be drifting when the rear slip angle is greater than the front slip angle prior to the corner apex, and the front wheels are pointing in the opposite direction to the turn (e.g. car is turning left, wheels are pointed right or vice versa), and the driver is controlling these factors.
The event was open for all who were willing to learn about drifting and how to start drifting your car be it Naturally Aspirated (N/A) or Boosted (Turbo Charged). Lessons were available for anyone who was willing to learn for a small fee and you were able to drift your car for as long as your tires could hold out.
We here at tnttorque.com will take you behind the scenes on learning the art of drifting as well liase with the D.W.O. team and what it takes to become a drifter. Stayed tuned and do enjoy the photo’s of D.W.O.’s first drifting event as well as our featured video.
